Caracas [Venezuela], January 5: Acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez has extended an invitation to the United States government to collaborate with Venezuela on a cooperative agenda focused on peace, development, and international cooperation, following the dramatic political developments in the country.
In a message shared on Instagram, Rodriguez emphasized Venezuela’s commitment to peaceful coexistence, sovereignty, and non-interference, calling for balanced and respectful relations with the US and other nations in the region.
“Venezuela reaffirms its commitment to peace and peaceful coexistence. Our country aspires to live without external threats, in an environment of respect and international cooperation,” Rodriguez said.
Call for US-Venezuela Cooperation
Rodriguez invited the US government to work together on a shared development agenda within the framework of international law, stating that peace and dialogue should prevail over conflict.
“We invite the US government to collaborate with us on an agenda of cooperation oriented towards shared development. President Donald Trump, our peoples and our region deserve peace and dialogue, not war,” she added.
Despite reports suggesting that the US viewed Rodriguez as a preferred leader in a post-Maduro scenario, she expressed continued loyalty to former President Nicolas Maduro, stating that her call for peace and dialogue reflected his long-standing message as well.
Maduro Family Responds After US Operation
Meanwhile, Nicolas Maduro Guerra, son of deposed Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, warned of internal betrayal within the ruling movement following a US-led military operation that resulted in the capture of Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores.
In an audio message circulated on social media, Maduro Guerra said history would reveal those responsible for what he described as betrayal.
“History will tell who the traitors were,” he said, hinting at an internal conspiracy.
Maduro Guerra, a lawmaker from La Guaira state and a member of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), urged supporters to participate in public mobilisations on January 4 and 5 to strengthen unity and called for political and military coordination in response to what he termed “external aggression.”
Maduro and Cilia Flores Face US Court
Former President Nicolas Maduro and Cilia Flores are currently detained in the United States and are scheduled to appear before a federal court in the Southern District of New York on Monday.
According to US authorities, the couple faces charges related to alleged narco-terrorism and drug trafficking conspiracy. This will mark their first court appearance following the US operation carried out over the weekend.
