New Delhi, January 7 : Delhi Police on Wednesday registered an FIR against unknown persons following a stone-pelting incident at Turkman Gate during an official demolition drive carried out by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
According to police officials, around 10 people have been detained so far in connection with the incident. The FIR has been lodged against unidentified individuals. However, police have preliminarily identified four to five suspects.
CCTV and Body Cam Footage Under Review
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to identify the stone-pelters using CCTV footage, ground visuals, and body camera recordings of police personnel. Officials said further legal action will be initiated once sufficient evidence is collected.
Police confirmed that the situation in the area is under control. Adequate security deployment has been made to prevent any further disturbances.
Stone-Pelting During MCD Demolition Drive
Earlier in the day, four to five police personnel sustained minor injuries after stones were pelted during an MCD demolition drive on encroached land near Turkman Gate. The demolition was conducted in compliance with Delhi High Court orders.
“The action started around 1 am. MCD conducted the demolition as per court directions. Stones were pelted at the police. We used minimal force to control the situation,” said DCP Nidhin Valsan.
Police Used Minimal Force, Say Officials
Joint Commissioner of Police (Central Range) Madhur Verma said that a few miscreants attempted to disrupt the operation. However, the situation was promptly controlled using measured and minimal force.
Deputy Commissioner Vivek Agarwal added that the demolished structure covered nearly 4,000 square metres, and 32 JCB machines were deployed during the overnight operation. He confirmed that no civilians were injured.
Extensive Security Arrangements in Place
Additionally, Delhi Police divided the area into nine security zones, each supervised by senior officers. Preventive measures were taken in advance, including coordination meetings with Aman Committee members and local stakeholders.
Authorities also deployed around 17 bulldozers to remove the unauthorised structures near Faiz-e-Elahi Masjid, close to Ramlila Maidan.
Delhi Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order while implementing judicial directions in a lawful and sensitive manner.
