Why January 15 Is Celebrated as Army Day
India observes Army Day on January 15 every year. The date marks a historic transition in 1949.
On this day, General K.M. Cariappa became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. He took charge from the last British commander.
This year, the Army Day celebrations will highlight modernisation and self-reliance.
