New Delhi, January 8: Delhi Police have identified 30 people involved in the Turkman Gate stone-pelting incident that occurred during an anti-encroachment drive by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) near Faiz-e-Elahi Masjid.
Police officials confirmed that teams identified the accused using CCTV footage and viral videos. Officers have started raids to arrest the suspects. Authorities deployed heavy police forces in the area to maintain law and order.
MP Mohibbullah Nadvi Likely to Face Questioning
Delhi Police will issue a summons to Samajwadi Party MP Mohibbullah Nadvi for questioning. Officials stated that the MP was present at the site before violence broke out. Senior officers repeatedly requested him to leave the area, but he stayed nearby.
Police said the demolition followed Delhi High Court directions. Officials also held several meetings with the Aman Committee and local residents to prevent unrest.
Five Arrested, Bail Pleas Filed
So far, police have arrested five accused in the case. The arrested individuals are Kashif, Mohd Kaif, Mohd Areeb, Adnan, and Sameer.
The court granted one-day judicial custody after providing FIR copies to the defence. The accused filed bail applications, and the court will hear them at Tis Hazari Court.
Advocate M Asad Beig, representing three accused, confirmed the custody order and bail filing. Advocate Mohd Akif, who represents Sameer, made a similar statement.
Incident Occurred During Court-Ordered Demolition
The stone-pelting incident occurred during an early-morning demolition drive near Ramlila Maidan. MCD officials conducted the operation to remove illegal encroachments.
Despite preventive measures, some individuals resorted to violence. Police continue the investigation and plan further arrests.
