New Delhi [India], January 17:
Indian intelligence agencies have issued a security alert ahead of Republic Day, warning that Khalistani and Bangladesh-based terror outfits may attempt to target Delhi and other major cities, sources said on Saturday.
Intelligence Agencies Flag Heightened Threat
According to sources in the Intelligence Bureau (IB), banned Khalistani groups and terror outfits operating from Bangladesh are actively planning disruptive activities. These attempts may intensify as January 26 approaches.
Moreover, intelligence inputs indicate that Punjab-based gangsters are increasingly working as foot soldiers for Khalistani and radical handlers based abroad. These handlers are allegedly using criminal networks to execute terror-related plans and destabilise internal security.
Criminal Networks Active Across Multiple States
Officials said these gangster networks operate across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Over time, they have strengthened links with Khalistani terror elements and foreign-based operatives.
As a result, security agencies have increased surveillance and intelligence coordination across these regions.
Delhi Police Intensifies Security Preparations
Meanwhile, Delhi Police has stepped up security measures ahead of the Republic Day parade. The North District Police conducted multiple mock drills at sensitive and crowded locations to assess preparedness and response time.
Specifically, police teams carried out four simulated drills during the first half of January 2026. These drills covered key locations such as Red Fort, ISBT Kashmere Gate, Chandni Chowk, Khari Baoli, Sadar Bazar, and several Metro stations.
Focus on Vigilance and Anti-Terror Measures
Additionally, the drills aimed to strengthen anti-terror preparedness and improve coordination among multiple agencies. Officials also used these exercises to sensitise the public and frontline personnel to remain alert during emergencies.
At the same time, authorities have intensified vehicle checks, surveillance, and monitoring at transport hubs and public spaces.
Republic Day Parade Arrangements in Place
The Republic Day parade will take place at Kartavya Path. This year, at least 30 tableaux will roll down the boulevard, showcasing India’s cultural heritage and development.
The parade will follow the themes “Svatantrata Ka Mantr – Vande Mataram” and “Samrddhi Ka Mantr – Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” marking 150 years of the national song “Vande Mataram.”
Agencies Remain on High Alert
Overall, security agencies continue to operate on high alert mode. They are maintaining close coordination to ensure peaceful Republic Day celebrations.
Authorities have urged citizens to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity promptly, underscoring the importance of public cooperation during national events.
