Rishikesh, Uttarakhand | January 21, 2026 :
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday praised Gita Press and its monthly magazine Kalyan for their unwavering commitment to Sanatan Dharma and Indian culture. He said the institution does not function for profit but works for the “creation of generations.”
Shah made these remarks during the release of the centenary issue of Kalyan magazine at Gita Bhawan in Rishikesh. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was also present at the event.
Amit Shah Praises Gita Press’ Cultural Legacy
Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah said every individual who values Indian culture or seeks solutions through spiritual wisdom is aware of Gita Press.
“This press does not run for profit. It runs for the creation of generations,” Shah said.
He recalled a recent discussion where someone attempted to calculate the profits of Gita Press. Shah said such calculations miss the true purpose of the institution, which has always focused on spiritual service.
“Zero Advertisement” Magazine Sets Global Example
Amit Shah highlighted that Kalyan magazine is possibly the first magazine in India and the world to run without advertisements. He credited Mahatma Gandhi’s guidance for this tradition.
According to Shah, Gandhi had advised the editors of Kalyan to keep spiritual publications free from market pressure. The magazine has followed this principle for a century.
“Books worth thousands are made available for just Rs 50 or Rs 100. This shows their dedication,” Shah added.
Appeal to Preserve Spiritual Atmosphere
The Home Minister urged everyone associated with Gita Press to preserve its spiritual environment. He expressed confidence that the journey would continue beyond the centenary milestone.
Shah said that maintaining values and discipline would ensure the publication of the 200th issue in the future.
CM Dhami Highlights Gita Recitation in Schools
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said Uttarakhand’s decision to make Gita shloka recitation mandatory in schools aims to connect young minds with their cultural roots.
“This is a powerful step to link the new generation with Sanatan values,” Dhami said.
He added that Uttarakhand is no longer just a pilgrimage destination but is gaining recognition as the Yoga Capital of the World.
Rishikesh Emerging on Global Cultural Map
Dhami said Rishikesh now represents a balance between tradition and progress. He described the city as a global center for yoga and spiritual learning.
He added that Devbhoomi Uttarakhand continues to strengthen its cultural identity while embracing modern development.
