New Delhi, February 5 :
UP Congress president Ajay Rai attacked the Centre on Wednesday. He linked his criticism to the controversy around former Army Chief General MM Naravane’s unpublished memoir.
Ajay Rai claimed the Modi government fears the book. He said the memoir highlights government failures. Rai demanded immediate publication of the book.
“General Naravane served the nation his entire life. He wrote the book in national interest. The government feels exposed. That is why it is stopping the publication,” Rai told ANI.
Rai also said Parliament should allow Rahul Gandhi to speak. He accused the ruling party of suppressing debate.
Priyanka Chaturvedi Questions Lok Sabha Functioning
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also raised concerns. She said the Lok Sabha atmosphere is becoming restrictive.
Chaturvedi pointed out that lawmakers should discuss major national issues freely. She said even a former Army Chief’s account now faces resistance.
“Future generations will question whether we failed to raise people’s issues,” she said.
Rahul Gandhi’s Reference Triggers Uproar
The controversy grew after Rahul Gandhi tried to cite Naravane’s memoir. He referred to it during the discussion on the 2020 China standoff in eastern Ladakh.
BJP leaders objected immediately. They argued that Rahul Gandhi violated House rules. They also said such references could demoralise the armed forces.
Lok Sabha Adjourned After Disruptions
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to reply to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address. Opposition sloganeering disrupted the House repeatedly.
The Speaker later adjourned the Lok Sabha until 11 am on Thursday.
After the adjournment, Rahul Gandhi accused PM Modi of avoiding Parliament. He claimed the Prime Minister does not want to face questions on national security.
