Government Says No Energy Shortage in India
Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri earlier assured citizens that India has sufficient fuel supply.
In a post on X, he said the government remains committed to providing affordable and sustainable energy.
“Our priority is to ensure the availability of affordable fuel for citizens. India has sufficient energy supplies and there is no cause for concern,” the minister said.
Indian Oil Dismisses Fuel Shortage Rumours
Indian Oil Corporation also rejected reports circulating on social media about petrol and diesel shortages in the country.
The company said fuel stocks remain adequate and distribution networks continue to function normally.
Indian Oil requested citizens to avoid panic buying and rely only on official sources for information.
India Strengthens Energy Supply Sources
Government sources said India remains in a comfortable position regarding crude oil and LPG supplies, even amid global concerns over potential disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Officials said India has diversified its crude oil import sources in recent years.
Since 2022, India has increased crude oil imports from Russia. In February, Russia accounted for about 20 percent of India’s total crude imports, which equals around 1.04 million barrels per day.
India has also started importing LPG from the United States since January to strengthen supply.
Public sector oil companies signed a one-year contract to import around 2.2 million tonnes of LPG from the US Gulf Coast for 2026.
The government has also directed LPG refineries to increase production to ensure sufficient availability across the country.
