Kathmandu, March 16: Nepal Oil Corporation has increased the prices of petrol, diesel, and kerosene after global oil prices surged due to tensions in West Asia.
The state-owned fuel supplier announced the price revision through a press release on Sunday. The corporation said rising international oil prices forced the adjustment.
Petrol prices in Nepal have increased by NRs 15 per litre. Diesel and kerosene prices have risen by NRs 10 per litre.
Global Oil Prices Drive the Increase
Officials from Nepal Oil Corporation said global market conditions influenced the decision. Escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia have pushed international crude oil prices higher.
West Asia remains one of the largest suppliers of crude oil in the world. Any instability in the region often disrupts supply chains and raises global fuel prices.
Countries that depend heavily on oil imports usually feel the impact quickly.
Nepal Depends Fully on Imported Fuel
Nepal imports all its petroleum products from Indian Oil Corporation under a long-term supply agreement.
When international oil prices increase, Indian Oil Corporation sends a revised price list to Nepal. Nepal Oil Corporation then adjusts domestic fuel prices based on these changes.
Because Nepal relies completely on imported fuel, global oil market fluctuations directly affect domestic fuel prices.
Impact on Consumers and Economy
The price increase has raised concerns among consumers across Nepal. Higher fuel prices often lead to increased transportation costs.
Economists say the hike could also push up the prices of essential goods and services. Transport and logistics costs play a major role in determining market prices.
If fuel prices continue to rise, inflationary pressure may increase in the coming weeks.
