New York, March 17, 2026: India strongly condemned Pakistan at the United Nations over reported airstrikes in Afghanistan. At the same time, India raised serious concerns about the deportation of Afghan nationals.
India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, addressed the issue during the UN General Assembly event on the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.
India Criticises Pakistan at UN
Firstly, Harish questioned Pakistan’s narrative on religious issues. He pointed out serious actions taking place within the country.
Moreover, he highlighted concerns over deportations and military strikes during the holy month of Ramadan.
“One wonders what large-scale deportation of Afghans and air-bombing campaigns during Ramadan would be termed,” he said.
Furthermore, he warned against the misuse of religion for political gains. He urged the international community to stay alert to such trends.
Heavy Civilian Losses Reported in Kabul
Meanwhile, Afghan officials reported massive casualties after an airstrike in Kabul. The attack allegedly hit the Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital.
According to officials:
- Around 400 people died
- Nearly 250 people suffered injuries
- Many victims were patients and staff
In addition, the strike caused severe damage to the facility and nearby structures.
Pakistan Denies Targeting Civilians
However, Pakistan rejected these claims. Officials stated that their forces targeted Taliban-linked sites, not civilian infrastructure.
They added that:
- The strikes focused on ammunition and technical facilities
- Operations aimed to avoid civilian harm
- The action was precise and controlled
Situation Escalates Along Border
At the same time, tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan continue to rise. Reports indicate cross-border attacks from both sides.
As a result:
- Several areas faced damage
- Residents reported destruction of homes
- Fear and uncertainty increased among civilians
Thousands Displaced Near Durand Line
Consequently, the conflict has triggered a humanitarian crisis. Reports suggest that around 7,500 families have been displaced.
Many families now live in temporary shelters. Additionally, they have lost homes, livestock, and basic resources.
Growing Global Concern
Overall, India’s statement reflects rising global concern over the situation. Countries and organisations continue to call for restraint, accountability, and protection of civilians.
