Iran has raised serious concerns at the United Nations over media reports alleging assassination plans targeting its top leadership, including senior political figures, amid escalating tensions with the United States and Israel.
Iran Raises Alarm Over Alleged Assassination Plans
Iran’s Ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, formally addressed a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and members of the Security Council.
In the letter, Iran highlighted reports suggesting that senior officials, including Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, may have been identified as targets in alleged assassination plots.
Claims of Violation of International Law
Iravani strongly condemned the alleged plans, stating that any attempt to assassinate high-ranking officials of a sovereign nation would violate international law and the principles of the UN Charter.
He emphasized that such actions:
- Threaten global peace and stability
- Undermine diplomatic relations
- Set dangerous precedents in international conflict
Iran described the alleged plans as a form of “state terrorism” and warned that even a temporary suspension of such actions does not eliminate the threat.
Protest Against Regional Countries
In separate communications, Iran also lodged protests against countries including:
- Saudi Arabia
- Qatar
- Kuwait
- United Arab Emirates
Iran accused these nations of allowing their territories and airspace to be used for military operations against Iranian soil.
Tehran urged these countries to prevent further actions and reiterated its right to self-defense under international law.
Context: Ongoing US–Israel–Iran Conflict
These developments come as the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran enters its fourth week. While diplomatic signals suggested a possible pause in military operations, hostilities have continued across the region.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has launched the 83rd wave of its ongoing military campaign, targeting key US and Israeli installations using missiles and drones.
Iran’s alert to the United Nations highlights the growing diplomatic and military tensions in the region. As accusations escalate and retaliatory actions continue, the situation poses serious concerns for international peace and security.
