India has strongly condemned the recent attacks on UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon. The country also paid tribute to the fallen “Blue Helmets” who lost their lives while serving under the UN mandate.
Strong Message on Peacekeeper Safety
Speaking at the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish emphasized that peacekeepers work in extremely challenging conditions. Therefore, ensuring their safety must remain a global priority.
Moreover, he described peacekeeping as a true example of multilateral cooperation in action.
India Pushes for Accountability
In addition, India reiterated its commitment to holding perpetrators accountable. The country previously led efforts behind UN Security Council Resolution 2589, which focuses on crimes against peacekeepers.
At the same time, India joined the global community in condemning attacks on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Recent Attack Raises Concern
Recently, a projectile struck a UN position near Adchit Al Qusayr in southern Lebanon. As a result, one peacekeeper died and another suffered critical injuries.
Meanwhile, UNIFIL confirmed that investigators are still working to identify the source of the attack.
Call for Immediate De-escalation
Furthermore, UN officials highlighted the rising human cost of the conflict. They stressed that no military solution exists and called for an immediate end to violence.
In conclusion, India urged all parties to ensure the safety of UN personnel. It also reaffirmed its continued support for global peacekeeping missions.
