Samajwadi Party chief targets BJP over Dalit issues, statue vandalism, and Noida unrest on Ambedkar Jayanti
Akhilesh Yadav Targets BJP on Ambedkar Jayanti
On the occasion of the 135th birth anniversary of B. R. Ambedkar, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party government, alleging that the highest number of Ambedkar statue vandalism incidents occurred during its 10-year rule.
Addressing the media in Lucknow, Yadav claimed that the ruling party is attempting to “mislead the public” ahead of the upcoming elections by announcing budgetary support for Dalit welfare.
Allegations of Discrimination Against Dalits
Yadav emphasised that, despite government claims, discrimination against Dalits, backward classes, and marginalised communities continues across Uttar Pradesh.
“People of Uttar Pradesh are aware and cautious. Even today, discrimination against Dalits and backward classes continues,” he said.
He further accused the government of promoting symbolic gestures rather than implementing real social justice reforms.
Remembering Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s Legacy
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, born on April 14, 1891, in Mhow, played a crucial role in shaping modern India.
As the chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Indian Constitution, he laid the foundation for equality, justice, and protection of rights for the Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes, and backward communities. His life remains a symbol of resilience against caste-based discrimination.
Criticism Over Noida Violence
The SP chief also criticized the state government over recent unrest in Noida, where protests by workers demanding minimum wages turned violent.
According to Yadav, the administration failed to act despite having prior knowledge of the situation.
“If this was a conspiracy, then the Chief Minister and BJP are responsible,” he alleged.
The protests escalated into clashes involving stone-pelting and damage to public property, raising concerns over law and order in the region.
Political Statement Ahead of 2027 Elections
Yadav concluded by expressing confidence that the BJP would be removed from power in the 2027 state elections.
“We will work together to establish the rule of social justice,” he said.
The remarks by Akhilesh Yadav come at a politically sensitive time, coinciding with Ambedkar Jayanti and rising tensions over social justice and labor issues in Uttar Pradesh. With elections approaching, such statements indicate an intensifying political battle centered around caste dynamics, governance, and public perception.
