Dehradun, Uttarakhand | April 14, 2026
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor on Tuesday. The project marks a major step in India’s infrastructure growth. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the event.
High-Speed Connectivity Between Delhi and Dehradun
The government built the 213-kilometre-long expressway at a cost of over ₹12,000 crore. The corridor connects Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. It will reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun to about two-and-a-half hours. Earlier, the journey took more than six hours.
This improvement will make travel faster and more convenient. It will also support business and daily commuting.
Modern Infrastructure and Smart Technology
Engineers designed the corridor for high-speed travel. The expressway includes multiple interchanges, bridges, and railway overbridges. These features ensure smooth traffic flow.
Authorities have installed an advanced traffic management system. This system will monitor traffic in real time. It will help improve safety and reduce congestion. Travellers will also get access to modern wayside amenities during their journey.
Focus on Environment and Wildlife Protection
The government focused on environmental safety while building the corridor. The project passes through areas rich in wildlife and biodiversity. Officials included several features to protect animals.
The corridor has a 12-kilometre elevated wildlife stretch in Saharanpur. This is one of the longest in Asia. It allows animals to move freely without disturbance.
The project also includes animal crossings and elephant underpasses. Engineers built a tunnel near the Daat Kali Temple to protect the surrounding area. These steps aim to reduce human-animal conflict.
Boost to Tourism and Local Economy
The new corridor will improve connectivity to Uttarakhand’s tourist destinations. Easier travel will attract more visitors. This will support hotels, transport services, and local businesses.
Faster transport will also help trade and logistics. Businesses can move goods quickly and at lower costs. The project will create new job opportunities and support regional growth.
PM Modi Reviews Wildlife Corridor and Visits Temple
During his visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inspected the wildlife corridor in Saharanpur. He appreciated the use of eco-friendly infrastructure.
Later, he visited the Jai Maa Daat Kali Temple near Dehradun. He offered prayers and joined children during an aarti ceremony.
A Major Step in Infrastructure Development
The Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor reflects the government’s focus on modern infrastructure. It combines speed, safety, and sustainability. The project will improve connectivity and strengthen economic activity in North India.
Experts believe this corridor will transform travel between Delhi and Uttarakhand. It will also set an example for future infrastructure projects in the country.
