Chennai, June 23: The Tamil Nadu Assembly witnessed high political drama on Tuesday after Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam DMK MLAs Walk Out legislators staged a walkout during Chief Minister Vijay’s address in the House. The heated exchange came as the Chief Minister strongly rejected allegations of “horse trading” made by the Opposition regarding the post-poll alliance that brought several parties into the ruling coalition.

The confrontation unfolded during the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address, with repeated sloganeering by DMK members disrupting the proceedings. Despite the interruptions, Chief Minister Vijay defended his government’s position, dismissed the Opposition’s accusations, and launched a sharp attack on the previous DMK administration over corruption, law and order, and police reforms.

DMK MLAs Walk Out Amid Heated Debate

The Assembly session turned tense when Chief Minister Vijay addressed allegations made by the DMK concerning the inclusion of alliance partners such as the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) in the ruling alliance.

The DMK MLAs Walk Out alleged that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government had indulged in political horse trading to secure support after the elections. Rejecting the accusation, Vijay maintained that both parties had taken independent political decisions and denied any involvement in influencing their choices.

“The Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Indian Union Muslim League made their own independent decisions. At the same time, they accuse us of sending for them and bringing them into the government. These allegations are completely baseless,” the Chief Minister said.

CM Vijay Targets Opposition Over ‘Blame-Game Politics’

Chief Minister Vijay accused the Opposition of engaging in “blame-game politics” rather than contributing constructively to debates on governance and public welfare.

Addressing the Assembly, Vijay said the Opposition was attempting to defame the government instead of discussing real issues affecting the people of Tamil Nadu.

“There can be no difference of opinion on maintaining law and order. Our government is committed to ensuring the safety of every citizen, especially women. We will continue taking strict action against drug abuse and criminal activities,” he said.

The Chief Minister DMK MLAs Walk Out added that drug-related crimes did not emerge overnight and questioned why previous governments had failed to control the growing menace despite having full administrative authority.

Vijay Criticises Previous DMK Government

Launching a direct attack on former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s administration, Vijay claimed the previous government had failed to appoint a Director General of Police (DGP), affecting effective policing across the state.

According to Vijay, his government has corrected the administrative lapse by appointing a DGP and strengthening law enforcement mechanisms.

He questioned the Opposition over the increase in drug abuse during the previous government’s tenure and asked why the police department had failed to curb such activities.

“People repeatedly spoke about the absence of a Director General of Police. It is only under our government that a DGP has finally been appointed,” Vijay told the Assembly.

Corruption Cases Will Be Pursued

Chief Minister Vijay also reiterated his government’s commitment to fighting corruption. DMK MLAs Walk Out Without naming specific leaders, he alleged that political parties had been collecting money in the name of party funds while misusing public resources.

“We will never loot public money. Every corruption case that comes to light will be investigated thoroughly, and no one involved will be spared,” he said.

As tensions escalated, Assembly Speaker JCD Prabakar repeatedly appealed to members to maintain order.
