Leh (Ladakh): The Ladakh Marathon 2026 is set to reach a major milestone with the Union Territory Administration of Ladakh announcing a record prize pool of ₹1 crore for the 13th edition of the prestigious high-altitude endurance event. The enhanced prize purse is the biggest in the history of the marathon and is expected to further strengthen Ladakh’s position on the global endurance sports calendar.
The Ladakh Marathon 2026 will be held from September 10 to 13, 2026, with organisers expecting more than 10,000 visitors from India and abroad. The event has grown significantly since its inception in 2012 and is now recognised as one of the world’s leading high-altitude marathon events.

With visitors spending an estimated US$60 to US$70 per day on accommodation, food, shopping and regional travel, the event is expected to inject around US$4.2 million to US$4.9 million, equivalent to approximately ₹40 crore to ₹47 crore, directly into the grassroots economy.
This economic impact can create opportunities for family-run guesthouses, homestays, taxi operators, restaurants, traditional artisans and other small businesses.

Multiple Running Events for Participants
The Ladakh Marathon 2026 will offer participants several race categories designed for different levels of runners.
The main events include the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 11.2 km Run and 5 km Run for Fun. These races allow both experienced athletes and recreational runners to take part in the event.
The marathon also features two extremely demanding ultra-distance races: the 72 km Khardung La Challenge and the 122 km Silk Route Ultra.
These events provide some of the toughest endurance challenges available to experienced ultra-runners.
Khardung La Challenge Adds Extreme Dimension
