Video Shows Nabi Justifying Suicide Bombing
Investigators have recovered a video related to the Red Fort car explosion.
The clip shows Umar un-Nabi alone in a room. He speaks in English and compares suicide bombing with “martyrdom”.
Security officials believe the video may have been created to influence or radicalise others. The footage is around one minute and twenty seconds long.
Video Retrieved From a Damaged Phone
A Delhi Police officer said that the video was recovered from a damaged mobile phone.
The device was found in a water body near Nabi’s house in Koil, Pulwama.
During his last visit home in September–October, Nabi gave the phone to his brother Zahoor Ilahi. He told him to dispose of it if any news about him surfaced.
After his detention, Zahoor informed investigators about the phone. Forensic teams later retrieved the video and other data from it.
Source of the Video Not Officially Confirmed
No central agency has publicly confirmed retrieving the video.
HT also could not independently verify its authenticity.
However, officers involved in the probe said the clip is now part of the investigation.
Arrested members of the “white-collar terror module” will be questioned about its purpose.
NIA Identifies Nabi as Suicide Bomber
On Sunday, the National Investigation Agency stated that Umar un-Nabi was the suicide bomber responsible for the November 10 blast.
The explosion killed at least 12 people.
NIA confirmed his identity after matching DNA from the blast site with his mother’s sample.
Soon after his name appeared in the case, his mother and two brothers were detained.
Nabi Considered the Most Radical Among the Group
Investigators in Srinagar said that Nabi held the most extreme views among the doctors involved in the network.
They believe he fully supported suicide bombings.
At the time of the explosion, Nabi used multiple mobile phones.
Officers are now trying to determine the exact number of phones or SIM cards he possessed.
More Doctors Under Scanner
So far, three doctors — Dr Muzammil Ganaie, Dr Shaheen Shahid and Dr Adeel Rather — have been arrested.
Rather’s brother, Dr Muzzaffar, is suspected to be part of the group and is believed to be in Afghanistan.
Police are also searching for Dr Nissar ul-Hassan, who worked with Nabi at Al-Falah University.
Several other doctors have been questioned.
Probe Looks Into Possible Pulwama-like Plot
Delhi Police Special Cell is examining whether the group tried to replicate the 2019 Pulwama attack.
In that incident, a car loaded with explosives hit a CRPF convoy, killing 39 personnel.
Officials are checking if these doctors followed a similar plan by collecting explosives and acquiring vehicles.
Experts Warn of Radicalisation Through Videos
Former J&K DGP SP Vaid said such videos are often used to brainwash vulnerable youth in Kashmir.
He explained that Pakistan uses such content to exploit local conditions.
He added that involvement of educated individuals, especially doctors, is extremely alarming.
According to him, community leaders abroad often counsel such individuals. India should adopt similar methods to prevent radicalisation.
Video May Have Been Recorded to Justify Suicide Bombing
An officer familiar with the probe said that the NIA will closely examine the content and intent behind the video.
He noted that suicide is forbidden in Islam.
Nabi may have tried to present it as “martyrdom” to justify his act and influence others.
However, this remains a theory at this stage.
Need for Stronger Enforcement in Metros
Retired IPS officer Ashok Chand said that videos recorded by terrorists before attacks are not new.
He added that metro cities require stronger enforcement and sharper intelligence.
According to him, every level of the intelligence network — from IB officers to local police constables — must remain alert.
