Mumbai, April 21, 2026: In a major push toward digital financial inclusion, NPCI Bharat BillPay Limited (NBBL) has onboarded Postal Life Insurance (PLI) as a biller under the insurance category on Bharat Connect. This integration enables over 1.25 crore policyholders to seamlessly pay their insurance premiums through both digital and offline channels.
Easy Premium Payments via Digital Platforms
With this move, customers of PLI and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) can now make renewal premium payments using:
- Mobile apps
- Websites
- Agent-assisted networks
A biller on the platform acts as a service provider integrated into Bharat Connect, offering secure and real-time bill fetching and payment settlement.
State Bank of India Facilitates Integration
The integration was facilitated by State Bank of India (SBI), which acted as the Biller Operating Unit (BOU). This collaboration ensures a smooth and reliable payment experience for millions of users across India.
PLI, operated by the Department of Posts, currently manages over 1.25 crore active policies and handles approximately 2.5 lakh transactions daily.
Digital Push in Insurance Sector
With PLI joining the platform, Bharat Connect now supports 65 insurance billers, reflecting the rapid adoption of digital premium payment systems in India.
Jitendra Gupta, Director General of Postal Services, called this integration a significant step in the department’s digital journey.
“The integration of PLI and RPLI with Bharat Connect marks a major milestone in our digital transformation while maintaining trust and reliability,” he said.
Strengthening India’s Digital Payments Ecosystem
According to State Bank of India, this partnership will enhance access to digital financial services across both urban and rural regions, making premium payments more convenient and accessible.
Meanwhile, Noopur Chaturvedi, Managing Director and CEO of NBBL, emphasized that the integration will simplify payment journeys for policyholders nationwide.
“Bharat Connect has become a trusted platform for recurring payments, and this addition will further improve user convenience,” she stated.

- 22,640+ billers
- 29+ service categories
- Access via 700+ apps
- A network of 5 lakh+ offline agents
