New Delhi, December 29:
The Border Security Force (BSF) has strongly refuted claims by sections of the Bangladeshi media alleging that two accused in the murder of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi entered India through the Haluaghat border area. According to the BSF, these reports are false, fabricated, and misleading, and no evidence supports any illegal cross-border movement.
BSF Categorically Denies Cross-Border Movement
According to officials, the BSF, which guards the India–Bangladesh international border, confirmed that no arrest or interception has taken place in the Meghalaya sector. Moreover, the force clarified that no illegal entry into Indian territory occurred.
“The claims are completely false, fabricated, and misleading. There is no evidence to substantiate them,”
BSF Meghalaya Inspector General OP Upadhyay told ANI.
Contradictory Claims by Bangladeshi Media Questioned
Meanwhile, IG Upadhyay highlighted contradictions in Bangladeshi media reports. Earlier, an IG-rank officer in Bangladesh stated that no evidence existed. However, a DIG-level officer later made contradictory remarks, leading to confusion.
“It was alleged that Meghalaya Police apprehended the accused. However, upon verification, Meghalaya Police denied these claims,” he said.
Therefore, the BSF reiterated that all such media reports are incorrect.
BGB Also Reports No Such Incident
In addition, IG Upadhyay said the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB), which closely coordinates with the BSF, has not reported any cross-border incident.
“The BGB is a highly professional force. Hence, the claim that the accused crossed into India without detection is highly implausible,” he added.
BSF Calls Allegations Highly Implausible
Furthermore, the BSF questioned the feasibility of the alleged escape route. According to officials, the claim suggests the accused travelled nearly 300 km from Dhaka, despite extensive CCTV surveillance and multiple checkpoints across Bangladesh.
As a result, the BSF termed the allegations totally false and fabricated.
What the Bangladeshi Media Reported
Earlier, sections of the Bangladeshi media claimed that Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Sheikh, accused in Sharif Osman Hadi’s murder, fled Bangladesh and entered India through the Haluaghat border in Mymensingh district, allegedly with local assistance.
Additionally, reports quoted an Additional Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police making similar claims.
Background of Sharif Osman Hadi Murder Case
Meanwhile, Sharif Osman Hadi, 32, suffered a gunshot wound to the head during an election campaign in Dhaka on December 12. Subsequently, authorities airlifted him to Singapore for specialised medical treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries on December 18.
In conclusion, the BSF has firmly denied all allegations of cross-border entry and has urged caution against unverified media reports. At the same time, authorities on both sides of the border continue coordination to maintain security and transparency.
