Dhupguri, West Bengal | April 18, 2026
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath intensified the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign in West Bengal on Saturday, accusing the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of allowing mafia networks to flourish.
In a post on X, Adityanath claimed that West Bengal remains “ensnared in the clutches of mafias”. He referred to sand, coal, land, and cattle mafias as key issues. He also alleged that these groups operate under political patronage.
Sharp Criticism of TMC Government
Launching a direct attack, Adityanath said the state government has failed to control crime and corruption. According to him, weak administration has created an environment where illegal activities continue unchecked.
He further stated that such conditions affect everyday life. Business activities suffer, law and order weakens, and citizens feel unsafe. Many voters, he added, now seek a government that ensures accountability and stability.
Public sentiment, he claimed, is shifting. In his view, the upcoming election offers a chance for change and improved governance.
Pitch for ‘Double-Engine Government’
Promoting the BJP’s “double-engine government” model, Adityanath highlighted the benefits of alignment between the state and the Centre led by Narendra Modi.
Under this system, he said, development projects move faster. Better coordination between governments can reduce delays and improve policy execution. He also noted that such a structure helps curb corruption and strengthen administration.
Calling it a practical solution, Adityanath urged voters to support BJP. He added that this model can restore law and order, eliminate mafia influence, and boost economic growth.
Campaign Events Across Key Constituencies
As part of his outreach, Adityanath will address a rally in Mathabhanga at 11:50 AM. Another public meeting will take place in Dhupguri at 1:20 PM.
Later in the day, he will join a grand roadshow in the Bankura Assembly constituency at 4:15 PM. Party leaders expect strong participation in these events as the BJP looks to expand its voter base.
Earlier, Adityanath expressed confidence that people in West Bengal want development, security, and transparent governance. He encouraged voters to choose a future focused on progress and stability.
Election Schedule and Importance
The West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 will take place in two phases—April 23 and April 29. Vote counting will occur on May 4, 2026.
These elections carry significant political importance. Major parties have intensified their campaigns, with senior leaders holding rallies across the state. The outcome will influence the region’s political direction.
Looking Back at 2021 Results
The current contest follows the West Bengal Assembly elections 2021. In that election, TMC secured a dominant victory with 213 seats.
Meanwhile, the BJP emerged as the main opposition with 77 seats. Congress and Left parties failed to win any seats, marking a major shift in the state’s political landscape.
Since then, BJP has focused on strengthening its presence. The party continues to highlight governance and development issues in its campaign.
Focus on Development and Security
Highlighting BJP’s agenda, Adityanath said the party prioritizes development, employment, and citizen safety. He stressed the need for better infrastructure and industrial growth.
A stable government, he noted, can attract investment and create job opportunities. Improved law and order would also ensure a secure environment for residents.
He added that BJP aims to build a transparent system that supports both economic growth and public welfare.
High-Stakes Political Battle
The election has turned into a high-stakes contest between BJP and the TMC. Both parties continue to campaign aggressively across constituencies.
Large rallies, roadshows, and digital campaigns show the intensity of the political battle. Each side aims to gain the trust of voters ahead of polling.
With the election dates approaching, attention remains firmly on West Bengal. The results on May 4 will determine whether BJP can expand its influence or if TMC will retain its dominance in the state.
