Beirut, August 11, 2026: The security situation in southern Lebanon has come under renewed international attention after the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported a significant increase in military activity. According to the UN mission, the tanks fired three rounds eastward, with the rounds landing approximately 200 metres from a UN position. Around 30 rounds of small-arms fire were also directed towards the same area.

The weapons were subsequently referred to the Lebanese authorities for further action.
Peacekeepers also discovered and neutralised two unexploded ordnance items in Sector East. In Sector West, two improvised explosive devices were found and destroyed at the site.
The discoveries highlight the continuing risks faced by civilians and peacekeepers from unexploded weapons and other hazardous military remnants.
